Skulboy 2017 Events

Didn’t get much chance to post in the blog during the year, so here are the Sculptures, Stamps and Events photos from 2017.

Was a great privilege to be part of establishing Disc Golf at Weddington Golf and Tennis in Studio City.
The staff there was awesome to work with and Ball Golfers’ attitude towards the Disc Golfers was curiosity and welcoming. Gorgeous course on top of all that.
Here are some Skulboy Posters from a couple of events there.

Big Gig / Skulboy Present

Very excited to announce that local legend, Richard "Big Bird" Mailhot and I have combined force to bring you: Big Gig / Skulboy Present. Check out our Facebook page Here.
Our main goal, MORE DISC GOLF!

Our first event is bringing Disc Golf to Rancho Duarte Golf Course for a once a month, trial run tournament. 10 holes with 4 par 4s and 1 par 5. Going to be awesome.

We're then following that up with Monday & Tuesdays at Weddington Golf Course in
Studio City, CA. Sweet 9 hole course.

Stay Tuned, more Disc Golf to come.

2016!

2016: Yep, already half over, I know.

First up, Skulboy Store is back open!

I apologize for the complete lack of post, but if you've been keeping an eye on the Skulboy Facebook Page, you've noticed I've been keeping busy with work and all things Disc Golf. Check the Gallery Page for the latest Skulboy artwork.
I spent the last 8 months working in Georgia as a Sculptor for the film Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol.2. Although I can't say anything about the movie, I can tell you I found some outstanding Disc Golf course in Georgia. Below are some photos of some very challenging courses that combined everything from tight wooded alleyways, water hazards, and large open fields.

Boundary Waters Park: Douglasville, GA

J.P. Moseley Park: Stockbridge, GA

Oregon Park: Marietta, GA

McCurry Park: Fayetteville, GA

Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park: Griffin, GA

International Disc Golf Center: Augusta, GA

Once my stint in Georgia was finished, I hopped over to Michigan and had the honor of meeting MVP Disc Sports Brad and Chad Richardson to talk business and play some Disc Golf.

Pasadena Pro/Am Sculpted Trophy

After doing the stamp design for the Oak Grove DGC Pasadena Pro/Am tournament, the Tournament Director, Jeff Nyerges, asked if I was interested in doing something for the trophy.
Always looking to stay busy with sculpting, I decided to do a relief medallion featuring the Disc Gnome from the stamp I drew (below.)

Roughed in, 4" diameter relief in Monster Clay.

The plan was originally to attach the relief to a standard trophy base.
Thanks to Mark at Cooler Heads, the idea changed to a sculpted plaque to frame the disc.

Oak tree bark frame in process. Carved in urethane foam.

Smooth-On silicone mold and bark plaque casting.

Disc Gnome medallion was primed in black and painted with 2 coats of metallic gold.

Final version ready for name plates.

Lined up at the tournament.
Overall, 10 were hand-made for the 1st place winner in each division.
Despite sweltering heat, the tourny was extremely well run and a total blast.
Great day of Disc Golf competition.

Latest Update: May 2014

After spending over 5 months working in Vancouver, BC (as a sculptor for The Night At The Museum 3 movie,) I'm back in Los Angeles forging ahead with everything Skulboy Designs.
Here's the latest.

CHAIN-CHOMPER Skulboy Sculpted Mini
This is a completely hand-crafted item that started with the mini disc sculpture that was then molded. Following the molding process was casting parts, shopping the parts and painting them.

The casting process.

Still getting the casting color ratios worked out and designing the packaging. Hoping to have these available this Summer in a single color version and a fully painted version.

One of the prototypes marking a spot on the course.

MVP/Skulboy TESLA
MVP's highly anticipated Distance Drivers are finally making their way into the hands of Disc Golfers everywhere. This custom Skulboy stamp from Disc Nation once again features Doc Volt standing at the ready with his Tesla Staff of Justice. This red-hot disc is available in the Skulboy Store.

MVP/Skulboy 1st Run, double stamped TESLA.

OAK GROVE Tournament stamp
The Oak Grove Disc Golf Course is not only the first permanent Disc Golf course in the world, but also what I consider to be my "home course." It has been a honor to get to design a stamp for the sport's most historical destination.
I've had this artwork idea for a Disc Gnome on hole 8 for many, many years. Ever lose a disc when you know right where it should be? The secret of the Disc Gnome is revealed at last.

Disc Golf Vancouver

While working on location in Vancouver, BC I had a chance to take in a few Disc Golf courses that were near the downtown area.

Quilchena DGC was 12 baskets situated along a pedestrian sidewalk in a suburban neighborhood. There was a leash-free area for dogs and plenty of walkers.

Jericho Hill DGC was a 9 hole course with some nice elevation and great views from the top.
The park also had a tonal course which I didn't get the chance to try.

Little Mountain DGC had 9 baskets in a park with slight elevation and water hazards.
Met some great locals who played a round of 9 with me in the standard position and then a second round in the course's original layout. Short, but fun Disc Golf.
